Thievery Corporation – Cutting to the Chase …. (Hash)
As I mentioned here, Thievery Corporation recently played three sold-out nights at the 9:30 Club – a reprise of last year’s run that resulted in a photo book. Cutting to the chase, this is (bass guitar) Ashish (“Hash”) Vyas on all three nights building up to a final encore….
Debo Band (Ethiopian Pop)
There’s no mistaking dancing to African Pop: Dancing with the audience is Bruck Tesfaye, charismatic vocalist with Debo Band, a large, brassy, Boston-based band with a unique take on Ethiopian pop music that combines traditional styles with American soul and funk rhythms. Fun!
“If George Clinton had come from Ethiopia instead of outer space, the result might have been what Debo Band gives you.” – Boston Globe
These are from a performance at the Artisphere in Arlington, VA.
Backstage Portrait (Rootz)
This is Arthur (Rootz) Steele and his wife Maria Teresa Chimienti. Rootz sings with Thievery Corporation and See-I. You wouldn’t know it from the cool couple in the photo, but this is backstage at DC’s 9:30 Club right after the last of three, sold-out, high-energy nights of Thievery (17-19 Jan. 2013).
